Hennessey Funeral Home’s legacy of caring service dates back to when Emmett Hennessey and Charles Calloway expanded their Walla Walla funeral business into downtown Spokane. Since then, four generations of Hennesseys have helped tens of thousands of Catholic families celebrate the lives of those who have passed.
We are honored to be a part of your family’s journey.
Making funeral arrangements can be a stressful and confusing process. We are here to help you step-by-step, so you can focus on your loved ones. We are a full service funeral home and a crematory, which means all of the preparation is done on-site at Hennessey. Our staff of licensed funeral directors, embalmers, certified crematory operators and funeral ambassadors will help coordinate with your parish if a Vigil, Rosary or Mass service will be performed.
We understand how important it is to have your trust. Your loved one will be treated with the highest level of respect and care.
Our caring staff are devoted to the diverse needs of your family and friends.
Your dedicated funeral director will discuss the details of the ceremony including Vigils, Rosary, Mass and burial or urn placement. Additional considerations, such as military honors, will be coordinated in conjunction with your religious needs.
Plans will be made for viewings, dates, locations, music, photos, announcements and the obituary. Additional requests or needs will be discussed.
At this time you will choose a casket or urn, flowers and memorial video.
We have a long-standing relationship with the Catholic Diocese of Spokane. Hennessey staff understand that your parish is part of your family, so we take care in working with all members of your community.
The Diocese of Spokane honors both burial and cremation. Hennessey staff hold Catholic doctrine in high esteem and we will strictly adhere to the procedures laid out by the Diocese of Spokane.

The Catholic Church honors traditional burial and cremation. In accordance with Catholic decree, cremated remains may not be scattered, separated or put on display. It is the preference of the Church that cremated remains be entombed or buried in a sacred cemetery location.

There persists a common misconception that there are fees associated with holding a funeral at a Catholic church. Catholic churches do not have a set cost for a funeral Mass. Traditionally, the family of the deceased will give a “free-will offering” to the Church in return for Mass services. A free-will offering is any amount that the family feels comfortable donating to the Church.
The costs associated with all other aspects of a funeral (funeral home arrangements, cremation, burial, etc.) typically range between $7,000 to $10,000. Please bear in mind that these figures are just averages. Your costs may be lower or higher depending on the services you request.
